The MMD group keeps on growing. In March 2023, we were thrilled to welcome a new member – MEP Aldo Patriciello (EPP, Italy).

Mr Patriciello is a member of the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy and a substitute member in the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety, Subcommittee on Public Health and a Special Committee on the COVID-19 pandemic.

Active across many public health topics, Mr Patriciello advocates for setting more ambitious health targets at EU level and strengthening coordination among Member States to combat chronic diseases that have a very negative impact on life expectancy, productivity and quality of life of European citizens.

One of the major chronic diseases, diabetes, is a multifaceted progressive condition which is a root cause for many other NCDs such as cardiovascular diseases, kidney diseases and cancer. Because of its complexity and interplay with other diseases and all levels of care, effective diabetes prevention, management and care benefit all other conditions, strengthen the resilience of healthcare systems and reduce inequalities in access to care and health outcomes.

We look forward to our strong collaboration with MEP Patriciello to curb the rising tide of diabetes and other NCDs, improve citizens’ quality of life and strengthen the sustainability and resilience of European healthcare systems.
