On November 28, 2023, IDF Europe and WHO Europe held a High-Level Technical Summit on Diabetes and signed a Joint Declaration recalling the urgent need for accelerating action on commitments to improve diabetes detection and quality of care.

The summit brought together healthcare professionals, national diabetes associations, people living with diabetes and Ministers of Health from WHO Europe Member States. Participants took stock of, and shared perspectives on, the detection and diagnosis of diabetes; quality of care, the prevention of complications; and equal access to the right quality treatment.

The Joint Declaration, titled “Accelerating Action on Commitments to Improve Diabetes Detection and Quality of Care”, represents a collective call to action urging governing bodies to uphold their commitments on diabetes such as the Voluntary Targets on NCDs, the Sustainable Development Goals and the Global Diabetes Targets.
