MMD welcomes MEP András Kulja as new co-chair of the MMD Group

21 October 2024

We are delighted to announce the appointment of MEP András Kulja (EPP, Hungary) as a new co-chair of the MMD Group. Drawing on his background as a surgeon in Hungary, MEP András Kulja brings invaluable insights into public health issues to the European Parliament.

Recognising the value of education and empowerment, MEP Kulja is keen to leverage his public health expertise to raise awareness of health issues among the general population. His social media channels serve as an educational platform to share accessible information with a wide audience. In the European Parliament, MEP András Kulja was elected Vice-Chair of the Committee on Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI) and is an active member of the Subcommittee on Public Health (SANT). He also serves as a substitute member of the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs (EMPL) and the delegation for relations with the Korean Peninsula (DKOR).

Within the ENVI and SANT committees, one of his main priorities is to address non-communicable diseases (NCDs), which remain the leading cause of death in the EU. Diabetes is a key risk factor for other NCDs. For instance, approximately one in three people living with diabetes develop cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). Therefore, preventing diabetes and its complications can contribute to a significant reduction in the prevalence of some conditions. We eagerly await our collaboration with MEP András Kulja to raise diabetes awareness within the EU institutions and to foster ambitious policy actions aimed at improving the quality of life and health outcomes for people living with diabetes and other chronic conditions.
