We are delighted to make an announcement on the expansion of the MMD group! This month MEP Franc Bogovič (EPP, Slovenia) joined his fellow parliamentarians on the path of combatting the diabetes challenge and improving the health and wellbeing of Europeans living with the condition.

Mr Bogovič is a member of the Committee on Regional Development and a substitute member of the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy and the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development.

Recently diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes himself, MEP Bogovič strongly supported the new Diabetes Resolution and in his intervention during the debate on the resolution, rightly referred to diabetes as a silent killer.

In Europe, 1 in 3 people with diabetes are undiagnosed and by the time of diagnosis many have developed or are at a higher risk of developing debilitating and life-threatening health complications. We appreciate Mr Bogovič’s remarks on the importance of early diagnosis and early action on diabetes as well as ensuring that the necessary treatment is accessible to all citizens across the EU27.

We look forward to working closely together with Mr Bogovič at EU and national levels to step up prevention and risk reductions efforts, improve management of diabetes and its complications and advance diabetes treatment for all EU citizens, irrespective of the country, region or socio-economic background they come from.
