The MMD Group welcomes MEP Laurent Castillo (EPP, France)
6 February 2025
The MMD Group is delighted to welcome Member of the European Parliament (MEP) Laurent Castillo (EPP, France) as a new member. MEP Laurent Castillo serves as the Chair of the Delegation for relations with the Mashreq countries (DMAS). He is a member of the Committee on Public Health (SANT), Committee on the Environment, Climate and Food Safety (ENVI), Conference of Delegation Chairs (CPDE), Delegation for relations with the Maghreb countries and the Arab Maghreb Union, including the EU-Morocco, EU-Tunisia and EU-Algeria Joint Parliamentary Committees (DMAG) and Delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean (DMED). He is also a substitute member of the Committee on Transport and Tourism (TRAN).
MEP Laurent Castillo is a university professor, hospital practitioner, and medical doctor. He also serves as the president of the Institut Universitaire de la Face et du Cou in Nice, France. His medical expertise and professional background drive his commitment to strengthening and enhancing EU health policies.
One of MEP Laurent Castillo’s key priorities is prevention, with a particular focus on obesity. Obesity is a major risk factor for numerous non-communicable diseases (NCDs), including cardiovascular diseases and Type 2 diabetes. This presents a major challenge for healthcare systems across Europe and society as a whole. Strengthening obesity and diabetes prevention and reducing their prevalence will not only help lower the incidence of other NCDs such as cardiovascular disease and kidney disease, but it will also enhance the resilience of healthcare systems by alleviating pressure on resources.
We look forward to working with MEP Laurent Castillo to develop comprehensive, integrated health policies that effectively tackle the burden of NCDs, including diabetes.
